Job Description:

Reporting into the CFO, a recently established Toronto based private equity firm is seeking a Senior Accountant and Compliance Associate to join the operations team. This individual will be responsible for updating compliance policies and procedures, monitoring compliance with these policies and procedures, corporate reporting, monthly accounting, audit, and tax support, as well as investment fund reporting.  This is a great opportunity for an exceptional senior accountant who can bolster the operations function and is looking to grow with the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Annually update corporate compliance policies and procedures to maintain industry best practices
  • Monitor employee and firm compliance with these policies and procedures (i.e., personal trading policy)
  • Assist in the preparation of compliance training for staff
  • Liaise with third party regulatory compliance consultant on a regular basis
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain QuickBooks accounting ledgers for multiple entities/currencies
  • Prepare financial statements for several corporate entities
  • Assist in managing monthly cash flow, analyzing working capital and cash movement
  • Process employee expense reports and corporate expenses (including credit card reports) and prepare payments as necessary
  • Review and manage the accounts payable and receivable process
  • Work closely with the investment and operations teams to finalize calculations prior to invoicing and to track and monitor expenses for recovery
  • Prepare monthly HST returns, monthly EHT filings, month-end journal entries and annual WSIB returns
  • Prepare FATCA/CRS reporting and monitoring/updating investor tax forms
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and on-going monitoring of company results including budget to actual variance analysis
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for auditors for the year-end audit
  • Provide support for tax returns preparation
  • Assist CFO and fund administrator in the preparation of the quarterly and annual fund financial statements and various investor reports
  • Collect and follow up on client KYC/AML documents and other assigned compliance functions
  • Pro-active approach to the role and input for improvements/enhancements to the current processes
  • Involved in special projects as required

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary degree in accounting with solid knowledge of accounting principles, financial accounting, reporting and analytical techniques and financial accounting systems; professional accounting designation preferred
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience; experience working in financial services / investments preferred
  • Audit and compliance experience is a bonus
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with an advanced knowledge of Excel; experience having worked with QuickBooks is an asset
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Willingness to work in a small entrepreneurial environment to get work done as necessary; resourceful and persistent
