Job Description:

Our client is looking for a highly motivated and results-driven individual to join their finance team as a Corporate Accountant to support the growth of the organization. Reporting to the Director, Tax & Accounting, the successful candidate will be involved in providing accounting and financial reporting for Corporate entities including supporting the needs of various internal and external stakeholders. The Corporate Accountant will also be responsible for the development and enhancement of the firm’s operating capabilities and controls to ensure the delivery of the highest standards of stakeholder responsiveness, quality and data accuracy.

Responsibilities:

Accounting

  • Prepare and enter journal entries and maintain the general ledger for Corporate entities.
  • Perform quarterly reconciliations and analysis of all accruals and balances.
  • Research, recommend and apply changes in relevant Canadian GAAP.

Cash Management

  • Process and monitor the timely and accurate payment of corporate invoices.
  • Perform cash flow analysis, forecasting and budgeting of the Corporate group.
  • Administer bank wiring instructions and cash deposits.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare timely quarterly and annual financial statements, including note disclosure, in accordance with Canadian GAAP.
  • Assist with the annual audit of Corporate financial statements, as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of working papers to facilitate compliance reporting (e.g. GST/HST, Income Tax, FATCA, CRS, etc.).
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly and annual GST/HST returns.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of ad hoc and routine department and management reporting.

 Controllership and Operations

  • Assist with preparation of data needed to support corporate transactions.
  • Support the ongoing compliance of entity agreements.
  • Review Corporate invoices to ensure proper expense allocations and entry to relevant period end date.
  • Identify opportunities and support initiatives to further evolve processes, strengthen controls, eliminate inefficiencies and improve scalability.
  • Assist Fund Accounting team members with daily duties and projects, as necessary.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Professional Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) preferred.
  • At least 2 years Accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and reporting under Canadian GAAP or IFRS.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency with a high level of aptitude for a wide range of computer applications.
  • Experience in managing accounting and reporting functions with daily and monthly deliverables.
  • Experience in managing and reviewing deliverables for financial reporting.
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems (e.g. Sage AccPac) an asset.
  • Proven track record of initiating and implementing process improvement initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of various tax compliance requirements.
