PR Account Director

Job Description:

Our client, a downtown PR firm requires an Account Director to join their team. The Account Director role will assume a high level of responsibility for client portfolio and team management. S/he will oversee and provide senior level counsel on account strategy and direction, messaging, media planning, promotional activations, partnership and sponsorship opportunities and event management. This role is accountable for oversight of dedicated account teams driving success and growth by developing long-term and profitable relationships. Moreover, this position provides inspiration, coaching and leadership. Overall, the Director performs as a key company ambassador.


  • Creative Responsibilities:
    Responsible for overall account/media strategy, planning & budgeting, setting broad client direction in consultation with the Vice President and President where required
  • Involved in setting and implementing the strategic objectives of the organization
  • Establishes and maintains key media relationships
  • Reviews and provides final approval on all external communications such as press releases, media/guest lists, event briefing kit and flows, reporting documents, etc.
  • Assesses and negotiates sponsorship / partnership opportunities
  • Provides high level event direction
  • Required to attend client events as sr. member of the team and/or for client and media face-time
  • Supports New Business Development efforts, including the successful renewal of existing accounts where applicable
  • Assists with all high-season activity team management and scheduling i.e. TIFF, Toronto Fashion Week, The JUNO Awards etc.


People Responsibilities:

  • Directs a group of account managers, specialists and coordinators including their portfolio of accounts, ensuring assigned clients’ needs and expectations are being met
  • Coaches, mentors and manages team to improve performance, productivity & account profitability, overseeing the efficient and effective operation of their team
  • Coaches others to align their business practices with company guidelines
  • Determines staffing requirements and assignments for short-term projects and campaigns
  • Manages team’s time tracking and over/lieu time needs
  • Articulates and effectively uses management reporting to direct the team’s priorities and develop ways to manage profitability



  • Nine+ years’ experience as a communications professional within a consumer/lifestyle/fashion capacity in
    either an agency or corporate setting
  • Experience leading, coaching and managing teams
  • Highly strategic with demonstrated success in client and project management
  • Advanced aptitude working to develop and execute communications plans based on client goals
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • Superior problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Adeptness to communicate ‘unpopular’ internal company decisions, messages and policies when required
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, with both internal and external contacts
  • Positive and professional demeanor with outstanding people, project and time management skills
