Job Description:

Boutique life insurance advisory downtown requires a Financial Modeling Specialist to join their company. This role will develop highly customized financial models and ‘best in class’ presentations that help clients understand and appreciate the tax implications of their financial structure and the way in which insurance products can form part of their tax solution. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced with overlapping task priorities that rewards anticipation, self-leadership, and mature, sound judgement. The incumbent is expected to be curious, energetic, will collaborate deeply with the team, and work fairly autonomously to drive tasks and duties to completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare customized financial models and presentations in Excel that use insurance products at their core for solutions to tax and estate situations. Work very closely with partners and the wider team to understand the client situation in detail, build and adjust models, and make recommendations for product use and structure
  • Prepare insurance performance reporting based on projections, illustrations, and comparison to actual performance
  • Build presentations to a superior degree of accuracy and quality suitable for presentation to the business families that the company serves. Maintain models, and with the team find ways to improve the efficiency, quality, and accuracy of the models
  • Monitor incoming meeting dictations to build understanding for each client and in conjunction with the partners adjust the models and recommendations accordingly. Ensure that presentations are ready and prepare the partner prior to client meetings
  • Prepare, analyze, and compare insurance quotes from various insurers to determine best fit for pricing, features, and coverage
  • Participate fully in company projects and corporate development work to seek improvements in service excellence and efficiency, and to generally help with the growth of the company
  • Complete all tasks and duties in a collaborative, team culture and in compliance within the company processes, procedures, and standards of excellence

Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience in development of financial models using Excel. Actuarial science experience is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of life insurance products and product illustrations
  • Strong working knowledge of taxation for estate planning purposes and the use of models for IRR, compound growth, forecasting, capital gains, tax deductions, capital dividend accounts, annuities, whole life / term / par insurance products, loan amortization
  • Demonstrated strength with advanced Excel functions including charts, name ranges, financial formulae, etc. VBA knowledge is considered advantageous
  • Demonstrated communications and collaboration skills, both written and verbal, ability to capture and present information clearly and concisely and work as part of a team to build presentations.
  • Ability to quickly learn, adapt, and bring into practice new knowledge and skills, as the team builds a body of best practices.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and basic project management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted professional relationships and coordinate with a team in a dynamic and demanding environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to exercise mature judgement when presented with conflicting priorities and competing or changing deadlines. Ability to ask questions and bring clarity in determining and handling tasks and information that is often highly sensitive and always confidential.
